Google’s keynote today was knocked by some observers for having a similar style to Apple keynotes: a funny video to start things off, an intro from the CEO to set the stage, and product leaders announcing new products that they work on. I don’t really buy into that as a critique. Apple usually does an impressive keynote; they use a format that other companies should copy. Something else that stood out is Google’s habit of using subtle references to Apple critiques to pitch its products....

A report yesterday suggested that the wireless charging capability expected to be included in the iPhone 8 will be limited to 7.5W, compared to the maximum 15W supported by the latest Qi 1.2 standards. This would mean that the device would charge half as fast as the latest tech would allow. It’s also said that Apple’s system, though based on Qi, will be tweaked so that only Apple-approved charging pads can be used....

One of the tentpole features of iPadOS 14 is a new feature called Scribble, which automatically converts handwritten notes from Apple Pencil into typed text. Speaking to Popular Mechanics, Apple’s senior vice president of software engineering Craig Federighi offered additional details on how the feature works. The iPadOS 14 Scribble feature allows Apple Pencil users to handwrite into almost any text field, such as the address bar in Safari or the compose field in the Messages app....

It would be hard to find a DC fan who has forgotten the vibrant posters for the 2016 Suicide Squad movie that birthed Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn and the less worshipped Jared Leto version of the Joker. Green Lantern, a film that was clearly meant to set up a trilogy, never received a sequel, but a handful of the actors associated with it are once again playing characters in the DC Universe.
