The report explains that while Comcast’s product will first be a set-top box itself, it’s possible it could “morph into an app” as well. Just today we heard the latest episode in Apple’s troubled relationship with the Chinese government: it has been required to remove Skype from the local App Store following a request from the Ministry of Public Security. The stated reason was that the app ‘doesn’t comply with local law’ – which appears to be code for offering end-to-end encryption plus allowing users to open accounts without using their real name. This is just the latest clampdown by the Chinese government on its own citizens, and is far from the first time that Apple has been placed in the position of doing something which directly contravenes the company’s own values …...

The split keyboard situation on iOS is so strange. As John Gruber rightfully calls out on Daring Fireball, the new iPad Pros simply don’t offer split keyboards. iOS limits the split keyboard to 7.9-inch, 9.7-inch, and 10.5-inch iPads. The old small iPad Pro had it; the new and pricier small iPad Pro does not. That means no split keyboard support on the arguably more portable 11-inch 2018 iPad Pro that’s thinner and lighter, and none of the three generations of 12....

The UK and other European countries are boosting the contactless payment limit, to allow more purchases to be made without the need to physically touch payment terminals… UK Finance says there were already plans in hand to increase the limit from £30 ($35) to £45 ($52), but these have now been brought forward and will apply from April 1. This is good news for those paying via Apple Pay, as it will mean you can pay for more transactions using your Apple Watch or iPhone....

The company filed paperwork with the Attorney General offices in California and Maine, notifying both that the information of 2,747 employees was involved in the attack. CVS Pharmacy has decided to disable all NFC terminals in all of its stores after it was discovered that Apple Pay would work with the hardware. CVS sent a memo to its stores, which was posted by SlashGear, saying that Apple Pay was not a supported payment type and that customers would have to choose some other payment method in order to check out. The notice also explains the reason for the change: CVS is currently part of a consortium of retailers attempted to create an alternative mobile payment method called CurrentC....
