Apple Music offers a great UI and user experience in many ways but one genre it’s not designed well for is classical. Now a new, free web app has launched that’s tailor-made just for listening to classical music on Apple Music called Concertino. As our own Ben Lovejoy previously pointed out, classical music and other less mainstream recordings suffer on Apple Music. Other issues with listening to classical music on Apple Music include “nonsensical playlists” and the service inserting breaks in-between movements that shouldn’t be there, and a system based on artists, albums, and tracks....

Privacy campaigners are planning a legal challenge as it was revealed that the UK contact tracing app retains personal data for up to 20 years … A privacy notice (link not available outside the UK) says that those who declare a positive test result for coronavirus will see their personal data retained for 20 years, while contacts without symptoms will have their data kept for five years. The usual GDPR right to have personal data deleted on request may not apply....

This morning, Apple is holding its 2014 official shareholders meeting from its Infinite Loop campus in Cupertino, California. The proceedings are just beginning, and Apple executives are expected (per usual) to field questions from attending shareholders. One of the orders of business at this meeting is voting to approve or reject both proposals from Apple’s management and shareholders. Bloomberg‘s Jon Erlichman reports that shareholders have rejected every proposal created by other shareholders while all proposals from Apple management have been approved…...

The Harley Quinn animated TV series gets a release date on DC Universe, as announced at New York Comic Con. The Harley Quinn TV show was first announced in late 2017, as one of the original series set to hit the then-untitled DC streaming service. DC Universe officially launched on Batman Day 2018, with the service’s flagship original, Titans, premiering a little later in October. Since then, DC Universe has rolled out episodes of original series nearly every week, with Young Justice: Outsiders, Doom Patrol, Swamp Thing and Titans season 2 all airing over the last year....

On Thursday, the DeFi platform said their protocol was exploited by a hacker who eventually stole 206,809 binance coins from Qubit’s QBridge protocol, worth more than $80 million according to PeckShield. An hour after the first message, the company explained that they were tracking the exploiter and monitoring the stolen cryptocurrency. They noted that they contacted the hacker and offered them the maximum bug bounty in exchange for a return of the funds, something a number of other hacked DeFi platforms have tried to middling success....

New data from Canalys shows that Apple remained the market leader in the combined PC and tablet market in Q1 this year, despite a 16 percent fall in iPad sales. With many consumers buying tablets in place of laptops, the approach taken by Canalys in combining the two arguably makes more sense than separating them out as other companies do. Tablets now outsell laptops, with desktops the poor relation. Worldwide, iPad shipments in Q1 fell 16% year on year to 16....

Australia’s TheAge details this morning how despite earning a profit of $900 million on revenue of over $9 billion in 2018 in Australia, Apple’s tax bill shrunk by nearly $19 million. This brought the company’s total Australian tax bill to $164 million. The Australian Tax Office’s latest transparency report reveals that Apple, alongside the other mega tech behemoths, pay a 30% tax rate. TheAge continues with: Had Apple paid taxes on those “unspecified” expenses, the company would have paid a bill around $400 million....
